Frequently asked questions
01What should I bring for a birdwatching tour?
We recommend wearing a hat, long trousers and sturdy boots/walking shoes and bringing binoculars, a camera, sunscreen, insect repellant and a bottle of water to stay hydrated. We have water bottle refilling available. At times you are likely to be walking through long grasses along animal tracks and past prickly mimosa.
02Are the tours suitable for beginners?
Absolutely! Our tours cater to all skill levels, including beginners and seasoned birdwatchers alike.
03What time of year is best for birdwatching?
Birds are plentiful all year round. The best time for birdwatching in Barcaldine is during Autumn, Winter and early Spring (April to mid-October) – Summer gets incredibly hot (some days more than 40°C). Winter is our dry season so we are less likely to be affected by adverse weather.
04Do I need to book in advance?
To ensure availability and to customize a tour to your needs, it is recommended you book in advance. We try to be flexible to accommodate dates and times requested. Please email, call or text to ask. (Note: we sometimes venture away from phone service areas so if a call doesn’t go through, please leave a message for us to call back.)
05Will bad weather affect the tour?
We will be outside so yes, bad weather will affect a birdwatching tour. However there are many fabulous birding spots to choose from. If we need to postpone a day we will. If you need to cancel, any money paid will be refunded.
